Women from marginalized communities often remain powerless and voiceless, excluded from the development process due to long-standing social and economic oppression. Recognizing this reality, Howrah Central Supravat implements a Women Vocational Training Program in the slum areas of Tikiapara, Howrah, with the objective of promoting self-reliance, dignity, and economic empowerment.
Under this program, 100 women are trained every year in the making of ready-made garments, with support from the West Bengal Women Development Undertaking. The primary beneficiaries include community women and adolescent school dropouts from urban slum areas of Howrah district.
The training provides market-relevant, income-generating, and easily adoptable vocational skills, enabling participants to secure employment or start small home-based enterprises. Along with technical skills, the program also focuses on leadership development, basic entrepreneurship, and management of small independent units, helping women gain confidence and decision-making ability.
Project Outcome:
The initiative enhances women’s economic independence, self-respect, and social participation, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to their families and the broader community.
